Two days before our potluck and sleepout, WQCLT joined with the Long Island City Coalition to present our two related plans for the LIC waterfront at a Community Board 2 meeting. LICC talked about their Hunters Point North Vision Plan for Resiliency, and we described our Queensboro People’s Space vision for the DoE building: a community land trust offering affordable rents to small manufacturers, community groups, street vendors and working artists.
The City’s OneLIC zoning proposal was also discussed by CB2 members, who then issued their “scoping” document in response. CB2’s document opposes upzoning the four publicly-owned sites at Anable Basin, supports preserving the DoE building for community use, and supports truly resilient, public parkland along the waterfront. We thank CB2 for their thoughtful, community-centered response to this proposed upzoning.
