Food Justice served up at Queens Food Day

... MumsKitchens NYC was honored to be a participant at the Queens Food day...

People in Astoria learned about what they can do to access healthy food closer to home.

Socrates Sculpture Park and the Queens Action Council teamed up for their second annual Queens Food Day Saturday.

Participants got to taste locally made Southeast Asian, Trinidadian and Bengali food.

They also learned about composting, urban farming and more.

"We need to make sure that our communities are being served and take our own lives into, into our own hands," said Audrey Dimola, Director of Public Programs, Socrates Sculpture Park.

"Doing things like supporting local farmers and investing in the local economy is making your local food system stronger," said Jerome Nathaniel, Northwest Queens Community Engagement Manager, City Harvest.

The event comes as the United Nations prepares to celebrate World Food Day, which is a part of their initiative to end world hunger 2030.
